Ecological Footprint of Food Consumption in Ijebu Ode, Nigeria

A recent study establishes that since 1970, there has been an ecological gap between human needs and the planet's resources, with annual resource demand exceeding bio-productivity of planet. Specifically, humanity utilises equivalent 1.75 earths to produce resources used, half this attributable food consumption. The present work therefore seeks provide empirically-based insight into environmental sustainability EF consumption in Ijebu Ode. descriptive cross-sectional approach was primary data were collected from 400 systemically sampled households via structured questionnaires analysed descriptively using Microsoft Excel differentially mathematical models for calculating footprints. Findings revealed household Ode is 0.05gha per capita, footprint cereal (0.17gha; 37%) taking major share, followed by meat a 0.11gha (23.9%). As result, it concluded sustainable consumption, which necessary its sustainability. However, sustenance former requires creating awareness need prioritisation integrated population-wide policies intervention initiatives encourage attitudinal change favour while fostering production strategies amidst current realities.
